Our 1% Commitment, Now Certified

Michele's Granola Give One for Good Food, partnership with 1% for the Planet

2006 was a big year for our founder Michele. Not only is it the year she founded Michele’s Granola, she also helped open a farmers’ market in a low-income neighborhood where she worked to launch a program that matched food stamp dollars, making fresh, local food more accessible to the community.

Everyone Deserves Good Food

From the very beginning, the idea that business can be a force for positive social change was baked into our mission, and in 2012, Michele brought that belief to life with the formal launch of our charitable giving program, Give One for Good Food®.

The program is rooted in a simple but powerful belief: everyone deserves good food. We donate 1% of our sales to organizations working toward a healthier, more equitable and sustainable food system, supporting efforts that address the root cause of hunger, improve access to nutritious food, and strengthen communities.

Our Next Evolution in Giving Back

Today, we’re proud to share an important next step in that journey.

Give One for Good Food is now certified through our membership with 1% for the Planet!

This Earth Month, we are excited to join 1% for the Planet who will provide third-party certification.

Considering claims of sustainability and social responsibility can be hard to verify, third-party certification offers something meaningful to you, our customer. It’s a clear, trusted signal that our community commitment is real, measurable, and making an impact.

Supporting a More Sustainable Food System

You may be familiar with the 1% for the Planet blue logo and their support of traditional environmental causes like clean water, conservation, and climate. And while that work is an essential part of their mission, it’s only part of the story.

As 1% for the Planet’s CEO Kate Williams recently shared, "…our economy, our health, and our future are all part of one interconnected system. A thriving future is only possible when we care for the whole system. That's why 1% for the Planet's definition of environment encompasses the connections between people and planet."

They champion an impact area called Just Economies, that includes a focus on strengthening food systems, with the goal to “Improve food security, food sovereignty, and food production through sustainable agriculture practices, waste diversion, food banks, equitable distribution, and food system localization.”

This impact area aligns with what Give One for Good Food has been about from the very beginning.

Strengthening Our Commitment to a Better Food System

This partnership doesn’t change our commitment. If anything, it deepens it by connecting us to a broader community working toward a more just, resilient, and sustainable food system. It also brings greater accountability to the work we’ve always believed in.

Giving back has been part of how we do business—not an afterthought, but a commitment baked into every batch we bake. We hope it gives you a warm, fuzzy feeling to know that every bag of Michele’s Granola you purchase nourishes not only you and your family, but our communities, too.
